Septic System Care
Preventative maintenance is the best approach for septic tanks.
Preventative measures include:
Have the septic tank inspected on an annual basis.
Minimize grease, solids from garbage disposals, household chemicals and other materials from entering your septic tank.
Reduce the water flow into drains, fix all leaks and don't do all your clothes washing and dish washing on the same day.
Never let water from gutter downspouts drain into the septic tank.
Direct surface water away from the drain field.
Plant grass over the septic tank and drain field to reduce erosion and to absorb moisture and nutrients.
Avoiding traffic or heavy loads over the septic tank and drain field. Don't put driveways, storage sheds or cement slabs over drain fields or tanks.
Don't plant Trees and remove any trees from the drain field to prevent tree root problems.
Get help when you suspect a problem, to minimize the damage and cost.
It is very Important to check with your local health department before purchasing a lot for home construction if you plan to install a septic tank.
